Portland Thorns head coach Rhian Wilkinson set to resign

Portland Thorns head coach, Rhian Wilkinson, is set to resign by the end of the month.

The resignation comes after an investigation into Wilkinson’s actions with a player. The investigation, conducted by the NWSL in partnership with the NWSLPA, cleared Wilkinson of any wrongdoing.

In a statement issued on Twitter earlier today, Wilkinson stated “The narrative regarding my actions has now taken on a life of its own, and as a result I can understand that the Portland players feel hurt and have to deal with another non-soccer related situation. The result of this being that the players have asked for my resignation, and I have agreed to it.”

In her only season as Head Coach, Portland posted a record of 10-3-9 and won the club’s third National Women's Soccer League Championship.
