Parking in Portland just got more expensive
In case you missed it: Parking fees went up in Portland. Starting on July 1, the rates for all metered spaces and those paid for using Parking Kitty increased by 20¢. The increase is billed as a “climate and equitable mobility fee,” that is supposed to make drivers more aware of their environmental impact.
In February, the new fees were approved by Portland City Council. The funds generated by the fee will be invested into the expansion of transportation affordability programs to prepare for another 40¢ per-hour parking meter increase set for next summer.
Investments from the fee will include:
Expanding affordable housing Transportation Wallet
Multimodal infrastructure projects
Research and policy development to inform additional pricing, equitable mobility, demand management, and affordability programs
